Very high impact. At first I struggled to see the relevance but as the course progressed it was really worthwhile. I learned new skills and believe that I have emerged as a more capable effective worker. Well delivered course. I learned a great deal about myself and how I work with young people.
Carie Taylor-Burns, Xplore Project, Dundee
"This has helped my social development and hopefully my professional ability ... Both the group and trainers were superb. The group was very supportive while challenging. While educating and guiding, the trainers were excellent to allow the group cohesion."
Mark Holland, Private Individual
"The counselling course has had a fairly immediate impact on my professional life. The self-awareness ‘journey’ has been difficult but rewarding, and has made me consider how I interact with people – both professionally and with friends."
George Annan, Community Learning Project Worker – Reintegration Team P&K Council
"Thank you for the course! I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I know that my work will improve greatly because of it!"
Jackie Sutherland, Xplore Project, Dundee

Modular Certificate in Counselling Skills

Who is the course for?

The certificate is designed for people who wish to develop their counselling skills and self awareness for use at work and for their own personal growth. It is particularly appropriate for anyone who works with people in a professional or voluntary capacity. The course is a training in using a counselling approach, and can be used as a first step towards qualification as a counsellor.

The course is experiential. Trainees need to be willing to participate in their own learning process and in the learning of their peers.

Trainers

All Rowan trainers are practising counsellors and have experience of using counselling skills in other professions. They are also experienced trainers. The direct counselling practice of the tutors helps to inform and enhance the training offered by Rowan. Each group will consist of between nine and eighteen trainees and have two trainers for larger groups.

Assessment

Each 30-hour module includes written and practical assessment. Trainees need to demonstrate competence in the learning outcomes of each module, before proceeding to the next module.
